RDA is a nonprofit education and advocacy coalition seeking to educate ourselves and the public about deep shale gas drilling and all of its ramifications. RDA was founded in 2009 as the Responsible Drilling Alliance, predating the massive build-out of the Marcellus Shale industry in PA. At that time, there remained a hope that tedious planning and strict conservation with an eye to the future could allow unconventional drilling in the Marcellus Shale to serve as a short-term bridge fuel to a sustainable energy future. Tragically, that has not happened; there is nothing responsible about PA’s relationship with the fossil fuel industry. For that reason, the organization now uses only its acronym: RDA. Through outreach programs, events, public forums, a newsletter, and social media, RDA strives to balance the conversation on gas drilling with authenticity while advocating for federal, state and local regulations needed to protect our economy, environment, health, safety and quality of life.
This grassroots group of dedicated citizens now numbers about 1200 and includes parents and grandparents, students, business people, hunters, fishermen, farmers, hikers, teachers, truckers, those who have leased their land to a gas company, and those who refused. RDA welcomes news members to join via the web site.
